A landscape of wooded strath, moorland, croft land, harbour and shore. But for at least six millennia, people have lived here and left their mark on the landscape. The earliest settlers built chambered cairns and standing stones. Later, Iron-Age tribes built brochs and the Christian Picts worshipped nearby. Local clans then clashed over land and power, and the Highland clearances saw families moved from their homes, leaving in their wake the present crofting lifestyle and landscape.
